AB-1826 requires all commercial businesses and public entities that generate 2 cubic yards or more of waste per week to separate food scraps and yard trimmings and arrange for recycling services for the organic waste. Mandatory commercial organics recycling helps to meet the goals of California’s Global Warming Solutions Act, AB 32. Again, the state may levy fines on companies that are not deemed compliant.
